front porch sittin'

i have come to the conclusion that i may have an obsession with porches. front porches... side porches... covered porches... small porches... porches of all kinds, just so you know, i'm utterly and completely in love with you.

sure, we might be moving to arizona, but i'm pretty sure that you'll never be able to take the southern out of this girl...

which is why i get so excited for spring/summer/fall/and, okay, winter too. the possibilities are endless!

i'm usually perusing pinterest to gather ideas, because let's face it... you're on there anyways drooling over chocolate recipes and overpriced boots... so why not?! it's funny, really, because i have all these ideas and pin all these cute little pictures and then realize... am i really going to do all this work?

because:

a.) my front porch is tiny + the colors aren't exactly "modern"
2.) i don't have the patience to sort through thrift stores for the "perfect" vintage accessories
iii.) daredevil season 2 + house of cards season 4 (i mean, really. the struggle is real!)

i knew that i had to get out of that funk and do it anyways because, duh, i love it and will thoroughly enjoy it. it's just that... you know... getting out and actually doing it part that gets me. :) ha! and let's be real: our house isn't just going to sell itself {although, that would faaaaaabulous!}.

i was able to find a few inspirational photos that i thought would not only work with my small space but accent the palette as well. i just love the bright colors and all of the freshly blooming plants!

so, off to hobby lobby, lowes, and marshall's i went during a lunch break. it got me out of the office, with a time limit, so not only was i focused, but excited as well. seeing both stores pop with spring colors and visions of outdoor dreams... well... it really put me in the spring + summer mood!

i was able to find some killer deals. a 5x7 teal and white outdoor rug at hobby lobby for only $20; another outdoor rug (3x5) at marshall's for only $7; and all those super cute owls and trinkets at hobby lobby were 50% off. who doesn't appreciate a good deal when you see one?!

so, onto the side porch:

and the front porch!

hopefully i was able to accomplish exactly what i was looking for... a fun and playful space with warm and inviting tones. i wanted someone to say, 'oh look at these porches! how cute!'... and hopefully, i've done just that.

cheers, friends.

weekend shenanigans...

well friends, i have come to find myself face to face with yet another nemesis: monday. argh.

thankfully i was able to get out and enjoy the fresh air as well as complete a few projects; which is why i had such a hard time believing that the weekend was over so quickly.

after deconstructing a swing that we've had by our fire pit for five years {!!!}, i took a few cans of rust-oleum "american accents" spray paint to it and i have to say, it turned out gorgeous!

yes, this was after i stripped it of its past cushions... trust me, it was time for a make over!

the color was eden, in a satin finish. it covered dull spots and coated everything so well that i was hooked!

i found a few chair covers that i thought went with the green and attached them with no issues.

i think it turned out pretty nice! i have plans to find a similar teal outdoor fabric so i can cover the arms of the chair as well as the mini table that sits in between the two chairs. you can never be too comfy!

i also planted a few container plants - two tomatoes {celebrity + roma} and two peppers {banana + jalepeno} - and an herb garden located off the back deck filled with cilantro, rosemary, basil, and parsley.

don't mind the dirty rug! ;)

i hope your weekend was just as lovely!

mia: commonly known as "the creeper"

mia has been known around our house for being quite the creeper...

whether its secretly eyeing food or photobombing progress photos, she has always managed to sneak into the frame at the last second.

but now... her level has reached an all time high.

while trying to take some photos of the master bedroom, she just couldn't stay put...

this dog! if she wasn't so cute, i don't know what i'd do with her.

as well as all natural wreaths...

of course, these cutesy deco mesh wreaths were just too adorable not to share!

tasty thursday: one pot lemon pepper chicken + rice

One-Pot Lemon Pepper Chicken & Rice FULL RECIPE: http://bit.ly/chickrices
Posted by Tasty on Monday, February 15, 2016

oh tasty, tasty, tasty... how you've ruined me from normal recipes!

i think it goes without saying that the one thing i dislike more than cold weather and mayo is washing dishes. can i get an amen for that?! #sorrynotsorry

so, obviously, when i saw yet another video for a "one pot" recipe... i knew that I couldn't refuse the challenge.

as much as i love chicken and rice... yum... this was probably the first recipe that i tried and was somewhat disappointed. but don't fret... i'll take you through each step and let you know what i would do differently in order to make it absolutely scrumptious.

{ahem... please see "full recipe" for important details.}

once i gathered my spices and blended them together, i didn't think that it was "lemony" enough. and since i had failed once again to remember lemons at the store {this is not the first time it's happened}, i grabbed a few essential oils to help add a tiny bit more flavor.

the crispness of the black pepper and the aromatics that the lemon possesses is a simply beautiful combination. since i always love adding a touch of heat, a dash of chipotle chili pepper hit the spot.

yum-o. it had the perfect amount of heat and the lemon paired wonderfully with the paprika. i spared half a tablespoon to add to the rice + onion mixture.

i chose to use chicken breasts instead of thighs, simply because i couldn't find any thighs that looked as delectable. and since i'm comfortable with cooking chicken breasts, i didn't think that it would make a big difference - and quite honestly, i don't think that it did.

okay, okay... here's where i had the issues.

number one... way too many onions in that pot. now, trust me when i say that i adore onions... but this time it was just way too much

number two... i felt as if i were ruining a decent batch of risotto. and i love making (and eating) risotto! so this was a hard pill to swallow.

after popping it into the oven, we impatiently waited to see how it would really turn out... and please ignore my dirty oven!

and i'll admit, it did taste amazingly delicious, {which my husband can attest to as well}. but...

my changes?

if you're comfortable with cooking chicken thighs, try it!
simmer down with the onions.
mix up the spice mixture. taste to your perfection.
if you're comfortable with making risotto... bake the chicken and while that's in the oven,
create a creamy risotto. super simple!
don't broil your chicken after you pull it from the oven. i tried it with one piece, and it seemed to
have dried out the chicken more than anything.

eat merrily, friends!
